The Philippa Buffet Lamp is built on a simple premise: a lamp on a sideboard should give you height without taking up surface. Thirty-three inches of slim gunmetal column rise from a rectangular base of white and gray marble, and the shade is metal as well — a tapered drum in the same dark finish — so the piece reads as one continuous line rather than a base wearing a hat. Because that shade is opaque, the light throws up and down instead of out, which is exactly what you want flanking a mirror or bracketing a buffet, where a glowing linen shade would sit right at eye level.
