A printed lamp shade is the cheapest way to change a room. The base stays put, the shade comes off in ten seconds, and a pattern at eye level does more work than most people expect. It is why decorators have been swapping shades for a hundred years and why patterned lampshades keep coming back into style.

These are hand-pleated in England and India, each one made to order. The prints run from block print to ikat to stripe: Willowbrook is a true hand block print in blue and tan or green and lavender, Coventry and Millbrook are ikats, Millbrook a blue and green flamestitch with a banded trim. Ashford is a small-scale blue and green geometric tile, Eastwood a light blue print, Rosewood a soft pink one. Fairfield stripes blue against red, Pinehurst sets palm trees over a blue and green stripe, and Rosemary is green with hand-applied gold leaf.

Four of the shades here are marbled rather than printed. Chiswick, Kelmscott, Caslon and Doves are hand-marbled a sheet at a time on recycled cotton paper, drawn with the same combs and rakes bookbinders have always used on endpapers, so the pattern lands differently on every shade and no two are alike.

The pleated shades are offered in the same diameters as the rest of the line, so a shade you like will fit a lamp you already own, and the marbled papers come in one size, a 16 inch empire.
