Order and Organization: The Best Renovation Plan

Order and Organization: The Best Renovation Plan

A complete home renovation can be exciting when you’re finally able to create your dream home. However, after developing a plan for what you want to achieve and obtaining the necessary permits, you may not always know where to start. Everything can seem necessary and urgent. If you’re facing this very dilemma, consider following this renovation plan below. You may then be moving into your dream home in no time.

Roof, Windows, and Exterior Cladding

Begin researching premium metal roofing options, windows, and exterior cladding with gutters at the start of your renovation journey. These areas are of the utmost importance for creating a watertight home.

If your home wasn’t watertight when renovations started and you decided to improve the interior first, you risk damage. For example, if you install and paint a new ceiling but don’t replace the leaking roof, rain can quickly undo all your hard work.

Plumbing, Electrical, and Insulation

Some home renovations can be so significant that you need to upgrade the plumbing and electrical components. You may even decide to install more insulation for temperature control. When these tasks are on your to-do list, make them your priority once you’ve made your home watertight. Wiring, pipe replacements, HVAC upgrades, and insulation can all be easier to do when walls and floors aren’t yet finished.

Interior Walls and Finishes

Once your plumbing and electrical components are in place, you can start installing walls and finishing touches. Cover your walls with drywall and plaster, and dedicate plenty of time to achieving a smooth finish. This is also a great time to install built-in cabinetry and baseboards.

Final Touches

Once your walls are installed, your house will begin to look and feel like a home. All that’s left to do is work on those final touches. Start by painting the walls and trim; there are many great color guides to help with paint selection.

After you’ve painted all the walls, install new flooring. This is when you pick carpet, tile, and other flooring materials to suit bedrooms, bathrooms, living spaces, and the kitchen. Always install flooring after painting to protect it from accidental paint tip-overs! Now is also the time to install countertops and cabinets, as well as appliances and light fixtures.

Cleanup and Inspection

Renovating is messy. Dust and debris are all part of the process! While cleaning as you go is worthwhile, a more in-depth clean can wait until the end, once all the finishing touches are in place.

Recognizing the time-consuming nature of cleaning, you may appreciate the value of hiring a deep cleaning company with experience in post-renovation cleans. They can provide a top-to-bottom cleaning service, allowing you to focus on moving all your furniture and possessions back into place.

If you’ve hired a company to perform your home renovations, the end of the renovation is when you should perform an inspection to ensure everything they have achieved is up to your standards.

Renovating a home is a multi-step process, and it’s not always easy to know which steps to start with! Follow this plan, and you may enjoy a far more seamless renovation process with all the crucial tasks taken care of first.
