Travel by Design: Le Sirenuse Positano

It happens every year – winter comes with its bare trees and stark white clouds and I start yearning for a warm escape. Mediterranean waters always call my name (I'm convinced there's some southern French or Italian blood in my otherwise Irish-Scottish family), and there's nowhere more iconic on the Amalfi Coast than the storied Le Sirenuse hotel.
Le Sirenuse was founded in 1951 by the Sersale family, who transformed their family home into a hotel. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several renovations and expansions, but the family has always maintained a strong connection to the property's history and local community. The interior design of Le Sirenuse is a blend of traditional Italian style and contemporary luxury, with intricate terrazzo flooring, antique furnishings, and original artworks on display throughout the hotel. No two rooms are alike in the hotel, carefully curated and beautifully unique.
One of the standout features of Le Sirenuse is its breathtaking rooftop terrace, which offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding mountains. The terrace is furnished with comfortable loungers and umbrellas, making it the perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun. I'm always enamored with the inspiring indoor-outdoor nature of the climbing vines inside several rooms sitting just inside the terrace.
