A Moody Dark Brown Guest Bedroom Refresh

I recently gave the guest bedroom a moody, sophisticated refresh thanks to Clare paint's Coffee Date dark brown paint color. Going dark with a small space is one of my favorite ways for the room to actually feel larger, the design more intentional, and the result much more chic! I love the dark brown study in my Telfair Circle Residence so much, so once I saw the paint sample for this color from Clare I knew it would really upgrade this room. Inspired by English designers who layer color and pattern so well, I had a custom blue toile headboard made and sourced cream sconces, scalloped pillows, and a vintage ship oil painting to hang above the bed.
Unfortunately, I had to paint over my tropical wall mural I created for this space several years ago, but I'm so happy with how this refresh came out and grateful for Clare's incredible zero-VOC and GreenGuard Gold certified wall paint, which made it easy to get this room painted in just one day. See the rest of the design details below!

This guest bedroom refresh proves that bold choices—like deep brown walls and a statement headboard—can create spaces that feel layered, collected, and truly elevated. The dark paint envelops the room with warmth and intimacy, while the blue toile, vintage artwork, and tailored accents strike just the right balance of tradition and charm. Whether you're working with a small space or simply want to make a more confident design statement, don’t shy away from rich tones. When paired with considered styling and personal details, they can completely transform a room.
