From the Archives: A Neo-Traditional Townhouse
FEBRUARY 21, 2023 - Written by Kevin O'Gara
I thought it would be fun to start sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the design boards I've shared with past clients, to showcase room inspiration and some of my favorite product finds from these projects. From local to virtual clients and a wide range of budgets, I'm excited to share some of my favorite past room designs I've completed!
Living Room Design
For this neo-traditional living room design for a contemporary townhouse along Atlanta's Beltline, I blended modern and classic elements to create a fresh but grounded design for a young couple. Working with the client's existing mid-century style armchairs, I used blue and terracotta orange accents to establish a sophisticated palette.
Iconium Collection Modern Turkish Rugs
Inspired by traditional Turkish design motifs, these hand-knotted wool rugs feature patterns and colorways reimagined for contemporary interiors. Classic borders and medallions compose these timeless rug designs, hand-knotted by rug artisans with 100% soft New Zealand wool.SHOP NOW >
Dining Room Design
In the dining nook beside the kitchen, I designed a custom banquette to run almost the entire length of the wall, to best utilize the space. I had drawers added to either end of the banquette base for additional storage, and vents to allow airflow for HVAC ventilation beneath it. For the back wall, I selected a grasscloth-textured wallpaper with a playful tropical toile-esque motif that feels both fresh and classic.
Bar & Seating Area Design
In a narrow pass-through space between the kitchen and living area, I created a seating area and bar cabinet to add both style and functionality. A tall, contemporary Venetian mirror is flanked by marble shelves, and cozy velvet swivel chairs add a clubhouse look to this inviting vignette. The organic shape of the hide rug was perfect for this small area.
