And the load-balance sensor watches for uneven weight during the spin so the machine can slow down before it starts walking across the floor. Each one feeds its readings to the control board, and the board adjusts the cycle in real time. When any link in that chain misreports, the machine either compensates badly or shuts down entirely.
Reading the symptoms and error codes
Start with what the machine is telling you. Overfilling or underfilling points at the water-level sensor. Water that never gets warm points at the thermistor. Violent vibration or endless re-balancing pauses point at the load sensor. Modern machines will usually hand you the answer as an error code — E2 for a water-level fault and F1 for a temperature fault are common patterns, and most models have a diagnostic mode that tests each sensor in sequence and reports back. Check your manual for the button sequence; it is the single most useful thing in that booklet. Testing, cleaning, and replacing a faulty sensor
Before you replace anything, rule out the cheap causes. If the connections are clean, a basic multimeter settles the question: measure the sensor's resistance against the spec in your manual. Replacement itself is usually a ten-minute job — power and water off, swap the component, seat the wiring firmly — followed by a calibration or diagnostic cycle so the board learns the new part. If a fresh sensor still throws errors, the control board or wiring harness is the real culprit, and that's the point where I'd call a technician rather than start soldering.
